Travelling north through the Twisted Forest, adventurers will come across a massive clearing where the ground rises up then drops into a deep chasm. The outer edge of the chasm is rock and dirt. As adventurers look over and down into the chasm, they see the Snake River winding through the chasm. An earthquake changed the flow of the Snake River, which over time eroded away the land forming the gorge.

Thunder Gorge ![]() The river dumps into the gorge as waterfalls at one end, and empties into the Sea of Mists at the other. Trees, brush and other vegetation grow along the river and in the gorge. The steep, treacherous chasm walls are riddles with various tunnels and caves. Some of these openings don't go very deep, others snake and burrow their way under the Twisted Forest. Goblins, kobolds, ogres, worgs and other creatures make these caverns and caves their home, the Thunder-Zok tribe being the primary ruling force. This chasm is known as Thunder Gorge. |
The history behind the naming of Thunder Gorge is shrouded in mystery. Some say it was named after the turbulent falls at the western end aptly named Thunder Falls. Others speculate the name coming from the frequent thunderclap of sound throughout the gorge. This echoing rumble is felt as well as heard when chunks of the treacherous rocky sides of the gorge break free and crash to the river bottom below.
