The Soulmate Principle

The Soulmate Principle is, simply put, a bond between two people. It can happen to anyone at any
time, whether you've only just met, or you've known them all your life. Love doesn't
enter into it, you can hate someone and still Bond with them. It takes only minutes to occur. A very
rare thing, it's thought to be pure myth by those who've heard about it.

The effects of the Soulmate Principle/the Bond -

Once Bonded to someone, you'll always be able to know approximately where they are and
when they're in trouble, among other things. Once the Bond sets, it's fairly common for
both the pair to become capable of empathic and telepathic communication, though only with
each other. For the first few days of the Bond, this telepathy and empathy can flare up, until the
pair learn to control it. Once they learn control, usually a week or two after Bonding, they can shut
it off or block it so as only to feel or hear the other person when they choose to. The mental link
between the couple is special in that it cannot be blocked by an outside force. Magical or psionics
from someone outside of the Link have no effect.

The Bond inflicts a few other things as well, they can be negative or positive side effects, depending on how one looks at them. The Bond causes the pair to need to be close to one another, so much so in fact that there dire consequences if they stay too far apart for too long. The distance varies between couples, but it's usually anywhere from around twenty miles to around one hundred miles. The stronger the bond, the shorter the distance. If a bonded pair is too far apart for too long, they start to weaken and will eventually die. The time limit also varies depending on the pair. Anywhere from three days to a week.

The Soulmate Principle also has very tangible positive effects. When a Bonded pair fight together, they gain strength and energy from the presence of their Bonded. They're naturally coordinated, increasing their effectiveness in battle.

Statistical effects of the Soulmate Principle -

When too far apart from each other for too long, the Bonded pair become weakened. This translates to a decrease in the effectiveness of your stats. After so long, three days to a week, one stat decreases by one number. A 14 would go to a 17, for example. After the initial stat drop, the time period that they can be apart decreases to three days, maximum. For every three days after that first drop, another stat drops. If all stats revert to 20, the character dies. Once together again, the stats return to normal.

When fighting together, the pair is strengthened. This translates to your stats as well. All stats gain one level in effectiveness for three rounds per day. A 14 would drop to 11 and so on.

The telepathy/empathy has no effect on stats.

How to achieve the Soulmate Principle -

Both players and the RK must roll a 1D20. If all three dice are 11 or above, the Bond is formed and the players are free to act out the Bonding any way they wish. Each Bond is unique.

Consequences and Reward -

This is a major decision for your character that can create dire consequences, benefits, and interesting gameplay options. However, keep in mind that it's a decision that effects your character until their death. The Soulmate Principle can be deadly and it may put your character in harms way. If one of a Bonded pair dies, this has repercussions on the remaining character beyond the IC psychological effects. If one of a Bonded pair dies, the remaining character loses one levels in one stat, to be chosen by the player. However the player must choose a stat that is at least 14 or lower to revert to 20.
