Due to the nature of the land itself, magic and psionic abilities do not typically function well in most regions of Anteor. All use of magic or psionics must be rolled for, and, unless casting from extremely near (As in several meters) one of the laylines the player must roll against a difficulty of two stat categories higher, to a maximum of 20. (For instance, a player with a grandmaster (5) stat, would be forced to roll at expert (11), while a player with skilled (14), would have to roll at untrained (20).

The Laylines-

Found largely in the woods and mountains, an elaborate series of laylines run though the very ground itself. However, rather than acting as gateways, from which magic is released, they instead suck in magic and psionic energy. However, when casting extremely near one of the laylines, a person may be able to tap in and recall some of their otherwise drained energy. (Note: Laylines are not easily found or detected, one can not just ‘sense’ their locations.)

Though many legends exist, about their origins and purpose, no one truly knows how long the laylines have existed or what purpose they serve.

Because of the extreme difficulty of magic use, the people of Capricorsia have almost entirely ceased to use it. The only ones who really use magic are some of the followers of the Ancient Gods, the fae of the forest, who never usually make themselves visible to human eyes, and rumored witches, who dwell far from civilization. The forms of magic that these casters typically use revolve more around complex rituals performed over the laylines, rather than spontaneous spell casting.
