The following are some of the most common Underdark races one can find or hear about upon visiting Barra Lanke. There are numerous more outside the city. Alignments (Lawful, Neutral, Chaotic; Good, Neutral, Evil) are what is the norm, not what is for certain.
Amphibious races will not be found in the lake but will be represented in council nonetheless.
Surface races can also be found in Barra Lanke.
Aboleths - LE - A huge, prehistoric psionic, fish-like amphibian. They're typically slavers.
Chitines - CE/N - They're four armed, spider-like humanoids, just under 4ft tall. They're often kept as slaves even though they have broken free from their complete racial enslavement by the drow.
Deep Imaskari - N - A sub-race of humans, tall, thin, and utterly hairless, including their heads, with skin looking like smooth marble. They're strong in magic.
Drow - CE - The subterranean version of elves, though the two races abhor each other. They have very dark skin and white/silver hair. They are the most populous of all races in the Underdark.
Duergar - LE - Gray Dwarves, named for their gray skin and normally bald heads. They are a cruel sort of Underdark dwarf.
Gloamings - Any - They're small with furry, dark wings. Their skin can glow according to their will, from very bright to non-existent. Descendants from beings from the plane of Shadows.
Glora -NG - Normal sized, Underdark fey. They have large, moth-like wings and antenna. They're known to be amazing bards.
Grimlocks - N - Gray-skinned, eye-less, human like creatures. Often described as the Druids of the Underdark, they're also often kept as Illithid slaves.
Illithid - LE - Humanoid in shape, but with 4 tentacles protruding from around their mouth. Typically tall, thin, with blue-gray skin. They are powerful, brain-eating psions.
Kuo-Toa - NE - Slightly short, fish-like humanoids. Typically devoutly religious.
Slyths - N - A large, bald, taller than average humanoid with soft, rounded features, skin varying in color with brown being the most common. Their natural form is that of an amorphous, ooze-like creature. Their origins are unknown.
Svirfneblian - N - They are bald, gray-skinned, Underdark gnomes. Renowned for their metal, stone, and gem work.
