Also known as Fungus men, myconids are a race of intelligent fungi that live in the remote reaches of the Underdark. They deplore violence, are neutral in alignment and have no desire to conquer. Myconids resemble walking toadstools in human form. Color varies from purple to gray. Their wide feet have vestigial toes and their pudgy hands have two stubby fingers and the thumb. They have no spoken language. They fight by spewing out various spores.
Language: Communal telempathic communication.
Religion: Psilofyr. Although only about 1 in 20 myconid kings are chosen as king-priests by this benevolent god, due to the unusual size of Mykitas the myconid king there is always numbered among them.
Climate: Warm and humid.
Resources: Fungi cultivated for food.
Flora and Fauna: Normal underdark plant and animal life, myconids, cultivated fungi, and animated dead.
Known Dangers: Although the usual dangers of the underdark are present, the myconid king also protects his community by animating dead creatures to guard the area. These are not ‘undead’, and will not react to spells directed toward ‘undead'.
History: Mykitas is the largest known community of myconids, with an unusual population of over 500 farming and living in a maze of tunnels thick with shallow pools, the water seeping down from the rainforest far above rich with nutrients on which the fungi that the myconids raise for food thrive. Although it cannot be proven, it is possible, in fact likely, that there is communication between Mykitas and the smaller myconid communities.
