Name: Trahsueraan Leaders: Su’taanvis, the One-of-three. This is a triumvirate of linked minds, formed of the three oldest and most powerful Taynsah alive. They monitor and maintain peace among the individual Tayn Sheurriim. Type: Independent city and racial center. Location: The Kalila Sea in southern Illandria. Monetary unit: None. There has never been any trade into or out of Trahsueraan, nor any need for a monetary unit within the city. Ethnicity/Race: Tayn Sheurriim (pluralized Taynsah), Aquatic Elves, and Skum. Language: The Tayn Sheurriim are powerful receptive and projective empaths, but also have a vocal language comprised of rich musical tones and chords. The sound of two Taynsah holding a vocal conversation is enough to induce a state of euphoria. Overhearing the symphonic resonance of a religious ceremony can cause overstimulation of the pleasure centers, resulting in reactions that range from unconsciousness to insanity and even death. Religion: The Taynsah recognize no actual gods, but they do worship the Nexus of Chaos Fyre under the city. Climate: Warm, maintaining a constant temperature year-round due to side-effects of the Fyre nexus. Resources: Nothing produced except for foods, nothing imported or exported. Flora and Fauna: The warm water supports a wide variety of fish and other aquatic life, but surprisingly few plants. As a result, nearly all of the creatures residing in the sea are carnivorous. Known Dangers: Near the surface, tojanida and large carnivorous fish vie for domination. The deeper into the sea, the larger and older the carnivores. Although there have been numerous expeditions into the sea’s depths, very few of those who descended ever returned. All that those who did return have brought back were fantastic and bedazzled tales of the Tayn Sheurriim. Skum are occasionally seen near the surface at night. History: At one time peaceful, placid and uninhabited, the Kalila sea became a battlefield when several conflicting races suddenly found themselves transported there from distant worlds. Aquatic Elves and Locathah, Aboleth and Vasamarth all found themselves contending for the warm waters. The Aquatic Elves retreated to fortified caverns deep in the sea-bed. Although doing so required them to give up the pleasure of daylight, it was effective in preserving the race. The Locathah, Aboleth and Vasamarth fought viciously and without pause, slaughtering each other until at times sections of the shores were washed red with the blood in the water. After several decades of this nearly unceasing conflict, a new race found itself transported into the rich, salty brine, and promptly fell upon the three warring factions. The Locathah and the few surviving Aboleth were enslaved, the near-mindless Vasamarth utterly destroyed, and Tayn Sheurriim arose as the dominant race. Next to fall were the Aquatic Elves in their cavern strongholds, subdued by the overpowering telepathic domination skills of the Taynsah, an ability augmented and fortified by the presence of the Chaos Fyre nexus. Resembling nothing more than fanciful, aquatic dragons, the Taynsah find the lower pressure near the surface uncomfortable and avoid it. They are slender, graceful creatures with broad wing-fins that spread like shimmering gauze around them, skin that ripples and glows with the vibrantly kaleidoscopic iridescent colors of a living gem, and large, liquid black eyes that seem to radiate tranquillity and comfort to any who meet their gaze. This sensation is deceptive; Most species of dragon - even those of friendly nature and peaceful inclination - produce an aura of fear. The Taynsah produce an aura of peace, and reassurance, yet are in no way peaceful. Hatching from eggs laid and abandoned in the lowest caverns of the sea, the Taynsah are born within the very heart of the Chaos Fyre nexus. Violently predatory at birth, the first to hatch of each season is usually the only one to survive, immediately falling upon the unhatched eggs and destroying them and the unborn contents, taking their first meal from the deaths of their siblings. The caverns that were once protection to the Aquatic Elves became prisons and breeding kennels. Although the Locathah did not survive the early experimentations of the Taynsah in learning how to handle the smaller creatures, the elves were sufficiently numerous that they did. Now a race completely dominated by Taynsah ‘Controllers’, the elves are barely recognizable as the proud, independent race they once were. Before the Aboleth were destroyed, the Taynsah tore from their minds the secrets of breeding Skum, and have created their own from a breeding stock of elves, Locathah, and any other race they could capture. The far-sighted intelligence of the Su’taanvis has resulted in several ‘visitors’ being allowed to return to the surface unharmed - in fact, the Taynsah guard, guide and protect these intruders, while bedazzling them with their natural beauty and mental powers of charming persuasion. After all, how else will they get new.. toys? And there is the greatest factor in the Tayn Sheurriim culture to consider. They are neither carnivore nor herbivore. They feed on empathic emanations, preferring the ‘flavor’ of pain and fear. There you have the reason for the continued survival of the enslaved elves; They are used as ‘food’ by the Taynsah, skillfully tortured and tormented to produce the maximum amounts of agony and despair. |
