History: The history of the runic elves starts within the city of Vvrock’uvin, the darkest city of the drow. 1600 years ago, a large group of drow dissidents, who followed the guidance of Eilistraee, abandoned the city of Vvrok’uvin in a search for a better life upon the surface. Despite their escape, they were hounded by the city Matrons, who would let no drow fall from their grasp.

The followers of Eilistraee eventually found sanctuary within the mist elven city of Sum’Fir. There, they befriended followers of Angharradh. The mist elves tolerated the drow as they were genuinely attempting to follow the path of good. The drow proved themselves by helping defend the mystical island against an onslaught of sea trolls.

While the scrags were eventually pushed back, numerous lives, mist elf and drow alike, were lost in the battle. Rather than abandon the beautiful tropical island, the two races came together to pray to their goddesses for help. Angharradh heard their call, and with magics never before felt by either race, she merged the two races together into a new race: Runic Elves.

Runic elves were blessed by the All Mother with beauty, grace, magic and strength. As children of nature, they were tall and pale, with a fierceness that showed in the brilliant colors of their eyes. And as the first race born on the planet of Rosha, they had an understanding of the Fyres. These connections to the heavens and earth granted them many innate abilities, amongst them the ability to shift shape. Each runic had forms of land, air, and sea. The royal family had more fantastical forms, including the ability to shape-shift into unicorns and dragons. These shape-shifting skills were to aid the new races in hiding from capture from the evils of their past.

They built a new city, an extension of the old. New Sum’fir was as elegant as any city ever built upon the world.

Unfortunately, they were betrayed and the location of the island was discovered by the drow of Vvrock’uvin. The drow manipulated, deceived and eventually murdered the runics. They stormed the island, and used every magical mean at their disposal to destroy everything. Even the drow Goddesses, Lolth, aided in the destruction, as she considered it a personal insult that they had escaped her web of influence by changing into something non-drow. The runic elves were an abomination, and worthy of the full fury of the Spider Queen’s wrath. The result was the complete decimation of the beautiful runic people and the loss of the island of Sum’fir.

Today, the remains of Sum’fir are kept protected within the embrace of the ocean. If it still exists at all, is unknown. But there have been rumors of the long tall spires of the once graceful city being spotted when the tides are low. None have dared to venture any further into the water to see what exactly lies there. The air near where the island used to reside is full of emotions and sorrow, enough of a warning to keep would-be treasure hunters away.

As for any living runics, none have ever been found. Surely any that somehow survived keep hidden in their animal forms, always on the run and trusting no one. For Lolth will never stop until every last one is destroyed.
