Name: Els’binderiyaa
Leaders: Prince Tsenher Simfoni
Type: Hereditary monarchy, with the royal family being of mingled aquatic elf, merfolk and triton blood.
Location: Within and around the Shah-Jhegge Isles.
Monetary unit: Pearls, opals, barter, trade, and various coinage from the drylands.
Ethnicity/Race: Aquatic elves, merfolk, tritons, intelligent sea-turtles, a few benevolent sea-dragons, sea-naga and vichi (an intelligent race of aquatic rodents found nowhere else.)
Language: Due to the diversity of races, oceanic common is the prevailing language. Also spoken are various dialects singular to each race living in Els’binderiyaa, from the slow, deliberate speech of the turtles to the rapid, chittering dialects of the vichi.
Religion: There is no official deity of the city; the inhabitants each worship whichever god they choose to give their homage to, or none do they so desire.
Climate: Cool and mild year-round. Sheltered by the Shah-Jhegge Islands around them, the inhabitants of the city rarely feel much of the effects of the violent storms that occasionally tear the waves above to shreds during the winter months.
Resources: Pearls, opals, exotic fish, sea-fruit and shellfish, various products woven of colorful sea-grass, well-trained hippocampi and giant seahorses.
Flora and Fauna: The waters are brilliantly alive with vivid, exotic fish, plants and shellfish, ranging from great black oysters the size of dryland dinner tables, patiently attended to by the tranquil forms of reposing sea-dragons, to aquatic glitter-lizards sparkling with every motion of razor-edged scales that can shred a careless assailant to ribbons, usually being carefully chased away by whatever citizen found it attempting to move into their home. Herds of hippocampi and giant seahorse are closely attended and guarded by mingled groups of aquatic elf, triton and merfolk youth. Vichi swim in flurries of busy, excitedly chittering family groups to tend and harvest the cultivated sea-pear, cucumber and other crops. Older elves, merfolk and tritons either go about their crafts in the city, assist with whatever emergency needs tending to, work in the open-water opal mines, or patrol the perimeters of the island in cautious groups, accompanied by naga and sea-turtles. Usually the elves and tritons are mounted on hippocampi and giant seahorses.
Known Dangers: Rarely a predator, from shark to poisonous snake or eel, may find its way within the guarded waters among the Islands. However, these intruders are rare and usually disposed of promptly by the well-trained guards and warriors of the city. Any resident of the city found to have committed any act of deliberate violence against another resident is promptly banished, without aid, into the unfriendly waters beyond the protection of the Islands.
History: Els’binderiyaa is a beautiful city, and a sanctuary to any friendly creature that seeks it out, but anyone dwelling there is expected to earn their keep. If they have no trade of their own, the Prince and his council will find them a task that benefits the city. In this way, all are kept well-fed, well-protected, active and beneficial.
