The Moonlit Isle

TOL ITHIL

Overview of the Island

Tol Ithil is located in the Sea of Mists, east of Iscenden, southeast of the Twisted Forest, and southwest of Rohan Plains. The first aspect of the island to make itself apparent is that the only way in is to fly. The cliffs of the island rise sheer and stark from the waves, with numerous claws of stone thrusting out of the water up to a quarter mile from the cliffs themselves. Those who are airborne and pass over these walls of blueblack stone, find that after a narrow, flat top, they drop just as suddenly on the other side, down into a land rich in forest and grasslands, that sparkles with countless tiny streams, ponds and lakes. At the northern end is a larger lake and the single town of the island, a settlement of pegataur. From this lake a single, broad river flows south, collecting on its way the waters of all the other springs, to empty through the only break in the surrounding cliff walls, a narrow chasm well-guarded by the jagged claws that break the water all around Tol Ithil. Two things are to be particularly noted about the island; first, that the only creature living there, be it intelligent or no, that does not have wings, are the fish. The second is that mental magic won’t work anywhere within or upon the cliffs. A peculiar metal singular to the stone walls of the island and mined by the pegataur, called ganheh, blocks the abilities of projective and receptive mind power. Patrols of pegataur monitor the island from the top of the encircling cliff, jealously protective of their secluded home.
