STATS
Mind: Novice 17 Body: Expert 11 Magic: Skilled 14 COMBAT
Weapons & Armor: Wearing armor on a sailing ship poses a far greater threat than the blades it promises to turn aside. As a result, he will not likely ever be seen wearing metal to protect himself. Even leather, lighter though it is, presents an inexcusable encumbrance when the need arises to swim in an emergency. This is not to suggest that he fights unprotected, but that stuff is best left to the mages to explain. Knives are tucked into places where they offer little hindrance to movement, such as in the tops or hollowed soles of boots. Far from a master, he is more than competent in their use, and that of the pirates' mainstay sheathed at his side. The cutlass, richly bejeweled and finely etched, is no less a tool by the decorations than any of the rude things carried by his crew into a fight. Special Attacks: Subtle magics which gradually sap the energy from his opponents, draining their strength, endurance, and resolve at a faster rate than normal for a fight, or those which stun and daze, or put the victims to sleep outright, with little in the way of blatantly destructive magic. Special Defenses: Minor magics geared toward warding off hostile spells or subtly directing physical assault away from vital places in favor of less critical wounds and, when luck would have it, complete misses entirely. Also, a slippery mind that is more difficult than the average to pin down under magical or psionic influence. Special Abilities: Other minor magics, mostly illusionary, to misdirect foes, alter his appearance, muffle sounds, and occasionally grant temporary benefits to himself or allies in the form of enhanced physical attributes or fortified spirits. So much the better for leading the boarding charge. APPEARANCE
Race: Gender: Male Height: Weight: Age: Hair: Eyes: Description: Generally, folks tend to disagree in regards to his appearance, though description rarely passes any extreme in height or overall build. Broadly considered to be at least a handsome fellow, with this scar or that as trophies from scraps that even his legendary luck and skill could not pass perfectly, the greatest draw found by those who claimed to have met him was in his voice and theatrics. To this end, Isaac is most often encountered in fine clothes, cleanly groomed and recently bathed, when circumstances allow. PERSONAL INFORMATION
Full Name: Title: High Captain of Lucre Marital Status: Blessedly untethered Alignment: Chaotic Neutral Patron Deity: Luck, in all her names wherever he may sail, and her brother Mischief Companions/Pets: Miscellaneous Magical Items: A few minor auras might be visible to the trained eye, though the natures of these items remain hidden to the casual observer, nothing that a solid hour of testing couldn't reveal. The patch covering his eye, the everpresent amulet around his neck, the cutlass sheathed and lashed off to his side, and an array of other minor trinkets which might change from one encounter to the next. HISTORY
There once was a youngster with his head in the clouds and his heart in the waves, but with his eyes stuck down on number problems, geographies, histories, genealogies. His greatest misery was the task of memorizing these trivial things to encourage his family's hopes for him to rise higher in station and bring them with him. The reddened knuckles spoke of his lacking enthusiasm, and his tutors complained loudly on the same subject. Regardless, little seemed able to stir in him the desire to learn these things for the sake of navigating a pecking order populated by jabbering birds of garrish color and terrible humor. Scampering off to play in the ocean, taking out a small boat over the water gave him a taste of real freedom, and his frequent hours sneaking out to mingle with the working class planted a notion in his head. Finally, driven by resent and the lure of the sea both, he severed ties and called all aboard to man the firsts ship he ever took, not rightfully his. A new captain had found his place in the world. ---------- Elsewhere, on other shores, a ragged youth scrounged out his living among the worst in thieves, beggars, and liars. Though trust ran thin, good cheer abounded among the lawless and unkempt. Most were content in keeping to their short lives as career scruffs and ruffians, but one saw opportunities on the waves when one ship in particular pulled in. With a crew depleted over contested shares in profit, her captain was hiring able bodies willing to work, learn, and obey. On little better than his best gut feeling, he signed on and left with others that he convinced to follow along. Years later, his worth proven time and time again as his captain's most reliable and profitable man, an unexpected promotion found its way to the young man. Of similar dimensions in height and build, the captain wished nothing more than retirement on accumulated riches. Keeping the name alive was the promising youngster, with no man not of crew any wiser. ---------- These and other stories are commonly circulated in regards to the name of Isaac Adrian, but there is little agreement between them as to just which stories are true, or even how much of a single tale can be taken as fact. The only points men will agree upon in Lucre are that he holds the High Captain's chair in city politics, that he generally gets his way whether by the Captains or at sea, and that his eye is less on the prize of profit as it is on that of the finer, more unique prizes, wherever they may be found. |
